This is the amazing true story of the relationship between Dr. Alfred Blalock, a white cardiac surgeon and Vivian Thomas, an African American carpenter. As it turns out Thomas has a true interest for medicine and is extremely gifted. The story starts out in Nashville in the 1930’s. This is the story of the difficult path towards recognition with lots of social hardships to endure along the way.

 

"Something the Lord Made" won the 2004 Emmy for outstanding made-for-TV movie.

It is very inspiring to every one of us with big dreams. This is a movie you will want to watch again and again.

 

The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till (2005)

 

This is the story about Emmett Till, a 14 year old black boy from Chicago, visiting his relatives in Mississippi in 1955. He was brutally murdered because he whistled at a white woman in the street. The two white men who murdered Emmett where found not-guilty by an all white male jury. This is a heart breaking movie. This is a very important movie.

 

 

The Rosa Parks Story (2002)

Starring Angela Bassett, Peter Francis James, and Julie Dash

 

We have all heard about the courageous Rosa Park. This is an outstanding movie about her life story. Most people have heard about the incident when Rosa Park refused to obey racial bus segregation, but how many know the life story of this heroic woman? Watch the movie and find out. It will be well worth your time.

 

4 Little Girls (1997)

Maxine McNair, Walter Cronkite, and Spike Lee


This is a documentary about four black girls who
were killed in a 1963 bombing of a church in Birmingham, Alabama.  There are interviews with the families and friends of these innocent girls. They tell their story. This is a powerful film.

 

 

 

The Jackie Robinson Story

Starring Jackie Robinson Ruby Dee, and Alfred E. Green

 

This is the biography of the legendary Jackie Robinson (1919-1972). He was the first black, major league Baseball player. Jackie Robinson changed sports history. He plays himself in the movie. He endured verbal abuse, injuries inflicted by other players, threats to his life. He never gave up. 

 

Roots 

This is an absolute classic that became a worldwide sensation. This mini-series is based on Alex Haley's "ROOTS", a Pulitzer Prize Winning Book. Roots deservingly won 9 Emmy Awards, the Golden Globe Award and several others rewards.

This is the powerful story of seven generations, starting with the capture of a young free black man named Kunta Kinte by slave raiders and shipped to America. Watch it as soon as you get the chance!
